Only when the attachment to self is completely severed and the attachment to dharmas is completely severed can one attain thorough selflessness; otherwise, the inner sense of "I" will never cease. When selflessness is fully realized, the mental faculty (manas) completely transforms consciousness into wisdom. Where there is a sense of self, wisdom remains incomplete, and ignorance persists. The heavier the sense of self, the deeper the ignorance. If one wishes to eradicate ignorance and eliminate the attachment to self, one must extend greater consideration to others. Refrain from dwelling on oneself constantly; a mind that contains nothing but the self is unacceptable.
