The Mechanism of Anger-Induced Physical Harm

The physical body influences the mind and mental factors. When the body's meridians are obstructed and Qi becomes blocked, a person will seek to release this pent-up Qi. The means of release is called venting anger or letting off steam—taking it out on oneself, others, or objects as an outlet until the blocked Qi is fully discharged. Only then does the Qi subside and the mind become calm. Slamming tables or throwing objects is one way to release this Qi. If the Qi cannot be released and remains trapped within the body, it leads to Qi stagnation, causing physical illness. Cultivated individuals who are unwilling to vent their anger suppress it within. Over time, this can lead to liver depression and Qi stagnation, or the formation of tumors and cancer. When the Qi blockage is severe, the pent-up energy is greater, resulting in more intense and prolonged outbursts of anger. When the blockage is less severe, the pent-up energy is smaller, leading to milder, shorter-lived anger that dissipates quickly.

Anger is extremely harmful to the body. No one wishes to be angry; everyone prefers to be cheerful. Therefore, no one's mental faculty would crave the sensation of anger or enjoy the feeling of being angry.
