The Śūraṅgama Sūtra, Volume V: The Twenty-Five Sages' Dharma Gates of Perfect Penetration – Bodhisattva Maitreya

Maitreya Bodhisattva then rose from his seat, prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and addressed the Buddha, saying: "I recall that in the past, after as many kalpas as atoms, a Buddha named Sun-Moon-Lamp appeared in the world. I left the household life under that Buddha, yet my mind was still attached to worldly reputation and fond of socializing with noble families. At that time, the World-Honored One taught me to cultivate the concentration on consciousness-only, entering samadhi. Throughout the kalpas since then, I have served Buddhas as numerous as the Ganges' sands through this samadhi, and my mind seeking worldly fame ceased entirely. When Dipamkara Buddha appeared in the world, I then attained the unsurpassed, wondrous, and perfect samadhi of the consciousness-mind. To the extent that all space is exhausted, whether the Buddha-lands are pure or impure, existent or non-existent—all are manifestations transformed by my own mind. World-Honored One, because I thoroughly understand that all phenomena arise from consciousness-only, limitless Tathagatas flow forth from the nature of consciousness. Now I have received the prediction to succeed to the Buddha's place next. The Buddha inquires about perfect penetration. I contemplate that throughout the ten directions, everything is consciousness-only. The consciousness-mind is perfectly luminous, entering perfect true reality, transcending dependence on others and the discriminations of conceptual grasping, thereby attaining the patience of the non-arising of dharmas. This is foremost."
