When major incidents or emergencies occur, an immediate subconscious reaction takes place because the mental faculty perceives the Dharma first, then transmits it to the supreme meaning faculty, after which the six consciousnesses perceive it. Once the six consciousnesses arise, they must execute the mental faculty's directive without allowing time for the intellect to contemplate or deliberate, compelling immediate action to address the event. After the intellect processes the event, one may still feel bewildered, unaware of what truly occurred. The mental faculty reacts so swiftly precisely because it perceives the Dharma first and knows it beforehand.
