Characteristics of Samadhi

Samadhi is the union of meditative concentration and wisdom; without either, it cannot be called samadhi. Various levels of realization give rise to corresponding levels of samadhi states. These states encompass characteristics of meditative concentration, characteristics of wisdom, characteristics of physical sensations and perceptions, and for deeper levels of concentration, characteristics of spiritual powers and supernatural abilities. The emergence of samadhi brings about an incomparable sense of lightness, ease, and comfort in physical sensations and perceptions. Sleep is reduced or eliminated, body and mind become joyful, the inner self grows increasingly clear and unburdened, ignorance diminishes, wisdom deepens progressively, and afflictions either lessen significantly or vanish entirely.
