Precognitive dreams occur when the manas informs the consciousness in advance about events that will happen in the future. The manas can perceive events that have not yet occurred and extends into the future. Why is this so? Because the Tathagatagarbha, based on the seeds of karma, perceives matters within the three realms of the worldly affairs—past, present, and future. The manas relies on the dharmas perceived by the Tathagatagarbha to form its own perceptions. Since the Tathagatagarbha perceives all dharmas, the manas likewise perceives all dharmas, though the essential nature of what each perceives differs.
