Severing the view of self requires evidence, and the evidence must be conclusive. The habitual tendencies of the mental faculty should not be too strong, and ignorance must not be too deep. If the mental faculty is exceedingly foolish, even when all the evidence is presented and is conclusive, it may still cling stubbornly to its original misconceptions, making it impossible to sever the view of self. The continuous process of the conscious mind observing and contemplating is the ongoing process of correcting the foolishness and ignorance of the mental faculty. Only when the ignorance of the mental faculty diminishes somewhat will it be willing to acknowledge the facts. Otherwise, even if the facts are blatantly obvious, it will be of no use.
