What Is the Patience of Non-Arising Dharma?

The Tolerance of Non-arising of Dharmas is the wisdom attained by a Bodhisattva upon realizing the mind and perceiving the true nature at the First Ground Bodhisattva stage after the path of seeing emerges. At the initial moment of realizing the mind, one attains the Tolerance of Non-arising, recognizing that the tathāgatagarbha is neither born nor perishes and does not come into being, while the five aggregates of body and mind are illusory manifestations of the tathāgatagarbha—appearing to arise but are actually non-arising in essence.

Upon cultivating to the First Ground, one obtains the wisdom of the Tolerance of Non-arising of Dharmas, realizing that not only are the five aggregates non-arising and the tathāgatagarbha non-arising, but all phenomena in the world are non-arising. This wisdom is immensely profound and is called the wisdom of consciousness-only. All dharmas and all appearances in the world are born from the tathāgatagarbha, lacking inherent self-nature. Though appearances seem to arise, they are non-arising in substance, being entirely of the nature of the tathāgatagarbha, just as gold ornaments are entirely of the nature of gold.
