Do Not Be an Enemy to Anyone

Those who win the hearts of the people win the world; those who lose the hearts of the people lose the world. Therefore, everyone should not make enemies of all the people in the world, and should not oppose anyone. One person's manas may not have much power, but when the manas of many people join together, the power becomes extremely great, and those who are hostilely regarded will surely suffer calamity. As the saying goes, the spit of the masses can drown a person — this is exactly the principle. Practitioners of the Path have greater power in their manas than ordinary people; those with meditative concentration (samādhi) have greater power in their manas than ordinary people; those with upright minds have greater power in their manas than ordinary people; those with great wholesome karma have greater power in their manas than ordinary people. Therefore, do not oppose those who truly cultivate, and do not oppose the upright and the good — this is what a wise person does.
