There are various types of meditative concentration, each with its own distinct states. At times, meditative concentration arises during contemplation of the Dharma; at other times, it emerges when one is deeply moved by the Dharma; sometimes it manifests when the mind is profoundly tranquil; occasionally it appears spontaneously without deliberate effort; at times it arises amidst extreme anger or frustration; and sometimes it manifests during intense suffering. In summary, whenever the mind becomes wholly concentrated, deeming a matter of paramount importance, rendering one unable to attend to anything else—when all other concerns fade from awareness—meditative concentration can arise.
