Dharma Teachings

The Present Spiritual Task of Ordinary Beings Is to Strive for Swift Direct Realization

When consciousness departs, whether the mental faculty can introspect upon itself or not—since consciousness is absent, how can consciousness know? Consider two individuals, A and B: when B is not present, how can A determine whether he can introspect upon himself? If B's eyes are obstructed, even when facing A directly, how can he observe and discern A's mental activities? The consciousness of ordinary beings is like B with obstructed eyes, unable to directly perceive and determine whether the mental faculty exhibits certain mental activities. Therefore, I advise ordinary beings to diligently cultivate without distraction, preparing for realization, and not to draw definitive conclusions about the mental faculty or the Dharma of the wisdom of consciousness-only. This is very, very far from their actual direct experiential observation.
