Flogging the Manas

Busy all day, drowsiness is heavy,

Suddenly feeling pain and itch, I wake from sleep.

Hand scratching the skin and flesh, the mind grows restless and vexed,

Lying back on the pillow, sleep will not come peacefully.

For beginningless kalpas, the attachment to the body has been heavy,

Even a mosquito bite's welt troubles the spirit.

Constantly vexed and disturbed by the aggregate of feeling,

Let go of body and mind, and contemplate with ease and freedom.
