What Do Drinking Conduct and Moral Character Refer To?

Question: The state after drinking alcohol is the manas' habitual tendencies, the manas' original appearance, right? 

Answer: After drinking alcohol, the brain nerves are anesthetized, the functioning power of the five sense faculties becomes weak, and the discriminating power of the six consciousnesses that arise becomes weak, as does the mind consciousness's power of thinking. In this way, these six scouts cannot properly investigate the realms of the six sense objects, and the manas has its sources of information cut off or half cut off; the mind consciousness's role as an advisor is no longer of much use. At this point everything relies on the manas's own wisdom, and the manas's intrinsic qualities are fully revealed.

"In wine there is truth" — the words spoken after drinking are entirely the voice of that person's manas, that person's genuine thoughts, without the mind consciousness's cover-up and pretense. What people often call "one's conduct when drunk and one's character" refers to the virtue of the manas, which is a person's original countenance.
