The Six Consciousnesses Do Not Transcend the Supreme Indriyas

When holding the right hand with the left hand, one can feel that the left hand feels cool and the right hand feels warm, with each hand having its own perception. So how many body consciousnesses and mental consciousnesses does a single individual truly possess?

All six consciousnesses arise at the subtle sense faculty in the back of the head, where they discern the six sense objects within the subtle sense faculty. Both the left and right hands belong to the subtle sense faculty, including the tangible objects; sensations are perceived within the subtle sense faculty itself. Given this, how many eye consciousnesses and mental consciousnesses can there be?

Discerning a hundred visual objects or touching a hundred tangible objects—all are merely visual objects and tangible objects within the subtle sense faculty, all discerned and experienced within the subtle sense faculty. The discerning mind does not extend beyond the subtle sense faculty; it is simply a single consciousness confronting a hundred objects. The Great Compassionate One manifests with a thousand hands and a thousand eyes, with hands and eyes pervading the entire body—what does this signify?
