When a hen hatches chicks for the first time, she knows how to incubate them, how to turn the eggs with her beak, and how to maintain warmth. The hen's consciousness has never learned how to hatch eggs. Why, then, is the hen innately capable of hatching chicks?
The hen's consciousness is newly born, unconnected to any past life. Her present-life consciousness has never learned incubation techniques, cannot acquire knowledge from books, has received no instruction from anyone, and has never been taught by other hens. Her conscious mind absolutely lacked any opportunity to learn, yet she can still hatch eggs. Why is this so?
Some children, at three or four years old, can compose music and perform it. Their consciousness is also newly born, having never studied composition, received instruction from anyone, or learned to read sheet music, yet they possess an innate ability to compose and perform music. How is this possible?
These phenomena stem from the wisdom carried over by the manas (mind-root) from past lives. It is the innate wisdom inherent in the manas, the result of imbued influences accumulated over countless kalpas (aeons).
