Excessive speech and wandering thoughts dissipate spiritual merits and Dharma wealth. When the vital energy sinks to the lower dantian, one becomes disinclined toward excessive mental activity, leading to fewer distracting thoughts and less speech. This fosters greater concentration and improved memory. Once the energy settles in the lower dantian, it remains focused there during walking, standing, sitting, and lying down—requiring no deliberate breath regulation or mental guidance—even during sleep. With energy anchored in the lower dantian, the mind becomes profoundly steady and undisturbed, exhibiting deep contemplation and penetrating insight into matters, thereby reducing afflictions.
