Providing a case for the Dharma Master: When I encounter a problem, after raising the question within a meditative state, I directly observe the solution to the problem. The resolution of the problem is not the result of thinking, but rather the outcome of direct observation.
Case Analysis: The "thinking" he refers to here denotes the surface-level cognitive function of consciousness. However, as long as the problem is entrusted to the manas (the mental faculty), and the surface consciousness refrains from thinking, the manas possesses its own unique deliberative and cognitive capacity. Ordinary individuals cannot observe this through consciousness and are thus unable to perceive it. Although consciousness does not engage in thinking or cognition, an answer may still arise after a certain period. Where does this answer originate? It arises from the manas’s own deliberation. The deliberative function of the manas is truly remarkable. In the final stages of Chan meditation, it is predominantly the deliberative function of the manas that comes into play. Regardless of whether the majority acknowledges this fact or not, it remains the truth.
A wise person would never count themselves among such a majority.
