The Principles of Cultivating Supernatural Powers

By working on the manas, supernatural powers can be developed. What are called supernatural powers are simply this: the manas connects with the tathāgatagarbha, the tathāgatagarbha connects with everything, and then the six consciousnesses connect with the manas—that is all there is to it. By cultivating the four dhyānas and eight samādhis, the six consciousnesses can connect with the manas, request things from the manas, and dig out everything the manas knows. When the manas no longer clings to the body and does not cling to the five aggregates as truly existing, then whatever the manas wants to do, it can do. When there is no clinging to the body of the five aggregates, the body of the five aggregates cannot obstruct the manas, and whatever the manas wants to do can be accomplished in an instant. If the mind constantly holds the notion of the body, the body becomes a burden, and no great undertaking can be accomplished. When deep within the mind there is truly no notion of the body—when the body is forgotten or not clung to—supernatural powers will naturally appear.
