Every material form is composed of the four great elements. Even earth is formed by the four great elements; water is formed by the four great elements; fire is formed by the four great elements; wind is formed by the four great elements. Therefore, material forms possess multiple functions, not merely one. Water possesses not only the property of moisture and the capacity to submerge, but also strength, temperature, and mobility. Wind possesses not only the property of floating, but also strength and temperature, as well as hardness—it can cause pain when blowing against the body. Fire possesses not only temperature and the property of burning, but also strength, mobility, and moisture. Earth possesses not only hardness, but also moisture and temperature, as well as mobility.
