The Śūraṅgama Sūtra: Maitreya Bodhisattva Introduces the Cultivation of Consciousness-Only Contemplation

"From the nature of consciousness flow forth immeasurable Tathāgatas." This statement is extremely crucial: every single dharma that flows forth from the tathāgatagarbha is entirely the tathāgatagarbha, entirely the Tathāgata — every dharma is true suchness (tathatā).

Contemplating earnestly that the ten directions are consciousness-only, the conscious mind is perfectly bright, entering the perfected-and-established consciousness (pariniṣpanna), departing from the dependent-arising nature (paratantra) and the imputed grasping (parikalpita), one attains the patience of non-arising (anutpattika-dharma-kṣānti).

Observe carefully that the worlds of the ten directions, down to the smallest particle of dust, are all nothing but the perfected-and-established nature of consciousness of the tathāgatagarbha, transformed and manifested by the tathāgatagarbha; all are the nature of the tathāgatagarbha — the conscious mind, the tathāgatagarbha, perfectly and wondrously bright, presents all dharmas. After contemplating in this way, one can enter into the tathāgatagarbha of one's own mind, achieving the complete and thorough transformation of the basis (āśraya-parāvṛtti) upon the tathāgatagarbha, no longer relying on the six consciousnesses of the dependent-arising nature (paratantra-svabhāva), nor on the seventh consciousness of the imputed nature (parikalpita-svabhāva), relying entirely on the true mind and self-nature, relying on true suchness and buddha-nature. One proves that all dharmas are the tathāgatagarbha, that none of them has ever truly come into existence, and that the self-nature of the tathāgatagarbha is also not born — it has existed from the very beginning. The attachment to dharmas (dharma-grāha) is thereby severed.
