Mastery over life and death lies within the manas-indriya (mind faculty). Cultivating the four dhyanas and eight samadhis enables one to attain mastery over life and death, allowing one to leave or stay at will, beyond the reach of King Yama. This is the manas-indriya controlling life and death, supported by meditative concentration; otherwise, it would be like talking about food without eating.
On every function of the body faculty, one can easily discern the manas-indriya; at the turning point of every mental thought, one can also easily find the manas-indriya; at every juncture of dharma recognition, the manas-indriya can likewise be found. In short, the manas-indriya is ceaselessly functioning everywhere, moment by moment.
The dharma of the manas-indriya, this switch of the manas-indriya, has now been activated, emerging continuously. Practicing based on this is truly a shortcut, ensuring one no longer takes detours. Meditative power will naturally increase accordingly, the mind will grow deep and tranquil, and realization of the dharma is inevitable.
