Thought encompasses both superficial thinking and profound thinking, with different levels corresponding to varying depths and differing degrees of wisdom. Conscious thinking is less taxing and consumes less energy, whereas thinking rooted in the mental faculty (manas) is far more exhausting, consuming considerable mental energy, as it can mobilize the body faculty and direct physical actions. Intuition is a function of the seventh consciousness. Thoughts that arise spontaneously and unconsciously belong to the seventh consciousness; thoughts that occur prior to conscious awareness belong to the seventh consciousness; thoughts that are difficult to articulate clearly belong to the seventh consciousness; thoughts that linger persistently and cannot be shaken off belong to the seventh consciousness; thoughts that are comparatively subtle and profound belong to the seventh consciousness.
