Seeing Is Reality, Hearing Is Illusion.

Even if the mind consciousness tells the manas ten thousand times that the bowl of water is poisoned, when one is thirsty, can the manas steadfastly and resolutely persist in not drinking it? If the manas personally sees that there is poison in that bowl of water, even when dying of thirst, would the manas still want to drink it?

Is knowledge instilled through instruction the same as that which is personally realized? "Seeing with one's own eyes is believing; hearing from others is unreliable" — isn't this exactly the principle here?
