Only When the Buddha-name Is Engraved into the Manas Can It Be Activated

Question: I also fall asleep every night listening to the holy name of Amitābha Buddha, letting the holy name be engraved into my consciousness and penetrate deep into my marrow.

Answer: The marrow corresponds to the manas. The Buddha's name needs to be engraved into the manas; only then can it be put to use at the time of death and in future lives, so that the karmic seeds are not lost. If it is merely engraved into the mind consciousness, the mind consciousness ceases at the time of death and will no longer function, let alone function in future lives.
