Hidden and revealed are both this Dharma,
Light and dark are never two distinct;
Now I transmit the Dharma of awakening,
Neither grasping nor abandoning.
Explanation: For sentient beings, the Tathagatagarbha, whether concealed or manifested, inherently possesses its essential function and nature. It is the primordial Dharma, never vanishing or perishing. The light and darkness within sentient beings' minds are not entirely separate from the Tathagatagarbha as two distinct dharmas. Light and darkness, delusion and enlightenment, exist because of the Tathagatagarbha, arise dependent upon it, and are fundamentally of the nature of Tathagatagarbha. I now transmit the Dharma of realizing the Tathagatagarbha. The self-mind of Tathagatagarbha never clings to nor rejects any phenomenon in the world. It neither attaches nor detaches, utterly free from the mental activities of the Three Realms, and is supremely pure.
