During regular Buddha-recitation, consciousness permeates and imbues the manas (mental faculty). When the manas becomes infused with the Buddha and comprehends the benefits of Buddha-recitation, encountering perilous situations in dreams will directly trigger the thought of Buddha. The Buddha's name is then spontaneously uttered without the need for conscious deliberation to decide upon recitation. Being able to recite the Buddha's name in dreams constitutes genuine Buddha-recitation, which enables one to resonate with the Buddha. Once blessed by the Buddha's power, nightmares immediately vanish. As the environment changes according to the mind, and dream states are even more illusory than reality, the moment the Buddha-reciting mind arises, the nightmare realm dissipates. The mental state then transforms from suffering to one of tranquility and serenity.
