To focus the mind and enter samadhi while reciting mantras, the tone must be prolonged and low-pitched. Avoid an upward inflection and excessive melody, as these may stir emotional fluctuations, scatter the thoughts, and make it difficult for the mind to settle. If concentration is weak and thoughts are scattered, recitation becomes challenging to memorize. Before reciting, regulate the breath by taking several deep breaths; this will help calm the mind. Then, during recitation, one can concentrate fully. With strong concentration, the effectiveness of memorization will improve.
