Question: Once while I was driving, my thoughts were initially chaotic. Suddenly, all distracting thoughts vanished, and the surrounding environment appeared utterly unfamiliar, as if I no longer recognized the road. Everything seemed fresh and new, even the air felt exceptionally clear. Then I got lost, even though that road was actually very familiar. Why did I experience this?
Answer: Because when the mind becomes focused on contemplating the Dharma, attention is withdrawn from the surrounding sensory objects. The consciousness, being single-mindedly absorbed in contemplation, allows the mind-root to gain a deeper perception of the Dharma. With inner joy arising, everything appears pleasant, somewhat akin to the emergence of a pure meditative state of samādhi. The mind can transform phenomena; the environment shifts according to the mind. This is a temporary result that arises during the cultivation process, not the ultimate outcome. The ultimate result is exceedingly supreme. Without going through these stages of cultivation and the accumulation of the process, no one should claim to possess any particular result. A plastic fruit is nothing to boast about.
