Can the Eighth Consciousness Exist After Death and Before Rebirth?

The eighth consciousness neither goes after nor comes before. Otherwise, the eighth consciousness could operate independently within the three realms, and the seventh consciousness, the mental faculty, could also operate independently within the three realms. However, this is impossible. Neither the true mind nor the deluded mind can operate alone; they must function together in harmony. If the seventh consciousness could operate independently, it would not require the eighth consciousness to arise and sustain it, meaning it would possess intrinsic nature and be a phenomenon that is neither born nor perishes. If the eighth consciousness could operate independently, it would not remain quiescent in nirvana without residue, and phenomena of the three realms could still be born. Then, nirvana without residue would be clamorous, and clamor is not liberation.
