Why Does Monk Jigong Drink Alcohol Without Violating the Precepts?

Question: Why is it that no matter how much liquor the monk Ji Gong drinks, his nervous system is never affected or anesthetized, and his consciousness remains forever clear?

Answer: Because the monk Ji Gong possessed the four dhyānas and eight samādhis, and had great supernatural powers. His cultivation had transcended the domains of the aggregate of form, the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of volitional formations, and the aggregate of consciousness. His five-aggregate body was unaffected by anything external, and he had no mental activity whatsoever; thus, whatever he did, he did not violate the precepts. The fourth dhyāna can alter all states of body, mind, and world, remaining unaffected by all external material form (rūpa), and can even transform the material form of both the inner and outer worlds. He was not constrained or obstructed by his physical body, nor influenced by the aggregate of feeling. Therefore, drinking liquor was the same as not drinking it: his nervous system would not be anesthetized, his mind remained forever clear, and he would not violate any precept.
