Ru Chun: During last night’s meditation session, I constantly felt something within me surging forth, as if it were about to burst out. The soles of my feet emitted heat, and muscles throughout my body twitched intermittently—here one moment, there the next. Sweat poured from my entire body, especially from my head. I could feel the refreshing sensation as beads of sweat emerged from my scalp. Later, my throat felt extremely dry, as if all moisture had been scorched away. Recently, I have been sweating frequently—whether reciting scriptures, meditating, or eating—and my weight has decreased by nearly 10 pounds. My arms and legs feel much lighter.
Not long after falling asleep last night, a surge of energy rose from my chest and rushed upward. Unconsciously, I opened my mouth and exhaled that energy in a long, heavy breath. After exhaling, I felt a profound sense of comfort throughout my body. This breath was entirely different from the deep breaths or exhalations of daily life. Daily breathing is like a gentle breeze, but the breath during sleep was like a tornado—vast and powerful. Recently, this phenomenon of exhaling in my sleep has occurred several times. With each exhalation, I feel a bit more spaciousness and clarity in my chest. I wonder if there is any connection between this dream of exhaling and dreams of vomiting blood?
Commentary: Due to frequent meditation, the fluctuations in the qi channels have driven the cold and damp pathogenic factors out of the body, resulting in the phenomenon of sweating. The more dampness is expelled, the more naturally the body weight decreases. During sleep, as the mind becomes tranquil, the qi channels continue their movement, readjusting the chest and expelling some turbid energy. Thus it can be seen that spiritual practice is truly beneficial. Not only does it regulate the body during the day, but even while asleep at night, it continues to regulate the body, eliminating karmic obstacles without needing medical treatment.
