The supreme enlightenment can eradicate all erroneous views in the world. Where do erroneous views arise from? They also stem from the view of self. Before ordinary beings attain any fruition, they all believe there exists a self—the material form is the self, the five aggregates are the self. All knowledge and views arising from this self-centered standpoint constitute erroneous views. Cultivating and realizing the Dharma can eliminate all such erroneous views and eradicate all karmic offenses of sentient beings. Upon attaining the first fruition (Sotāpanna), one severs the three fetters, including the erroneous view of self, thereby eradicating karmic retribution accumulated since beginningless time that would lead to rebirth in the three evil paths. One will never again fall into the three evil paths in the future. Remaining karmic retribution will only manifest within the human realm, where one endures suffering. However severe the suffering in the human realm may be, it remains preferable and far lighter than the torment experienced in the three evil paths.
