The Profound Meaning of Vijñapti-mātratā in the Diamond Sutra (LXVIII)

After attaining enlightenment through upholding the Diamond Sutra, one's wisdom continuously expands, enabling one to expound the Dharma for others and help them achieve enlightenment. The merit of Dharma giving itself is immense; when sentient beings benefit, the merit becomes even greater. Throughout the three immeasurable kalpas required to achieve Buddhahood, by liberating sentient beings from the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death, and forming karmic connections with countless beings, one will in the future have numerous disciples who follow and learn. This establishes the foundation for creating one's own Buddha land. The establishment of a Buddha land necessitates disciples at various levels; without disciples, a land cannot be established, nor can Buddhahood be attained. Only by guiding disciples in their practice, and when the disciples attain accomplishment, can one's own cultivation advance to a higher stage and attain a superior fruit. Therefore, upholding, reciting, and comprehending the Diamond Sutra to realize the Diamond Mind—this merit is immeasurably vast.

The Diamond Mind is also an unconditioned mind, devoid of mental activities pertaining to the Three Realms, and free from deliberate action. Precisely because it acts without deliberate action, it can accomplish all things and perfect all dharmas. The merit contained within the unconditioned mind is exceedingly great, eternally indestructible, impervious to any harm, and cannot be taken away by anyone. How supremely precious, then, is this unconditioned merit! It is beyond description, far surpassing the conditioned merit of giving the seven treasures—incomparable and ineffable.
