The Profound Meaning of Vijñaptimātratā in the Diamond Sutra (91)

The Buddha said: "Subhuti, wherever this Diamond Sutra is present, wherever the indestructible heart of the Tathagata-garbha exists, all heavenly beings, humans, and asuras of the world should come to make offerings to this scripture and to the Tathagata Buddha of the Mahayana. You should know that wherever this sutra is found is a stupa, is a solemn Bodhimanda. All sentient beings should revere and make offerings to it, devoting their entire body and mind to circumambulate the stupa in reverence, and scatter various fragrant flowers upon this place, using blossoms and incense to make offerings to the stupa and temple of the Buddha."

Why should offerings be made wherever this sutra is present? Because this sutra is the Dharmakaya Buddha, is the Tathagata; only by making offerings to this Buddha can one ultimately attain Buddhahood. Moreover, offerings are primarily made through upholding, reciting, and studying it, and by relying on it for cultivation and practice, thereby ultimately attaining Buddhahood. Why is the place where this sutra resides considered a Bodhimanda? Because all practices are cultivated centered around this sutra; all practices are carried out within this Bodhimanda; all Dharma originates from this Bodhimanda; all undertakings to liberate sentient beings are implemented within this Bodhimanda; ultimately, Buddhahood is attained within this Bodhimanda; all-knowing wisdom is perfected within this Bodhimanda; all Buddha lands are also accomplished within this Bodhimanda. Why should one circumambulate this scripture in reverence? Because fundamentally, no sentient being and no Dharma can exist apart from this sutra. Even without consciously circumambulating, one is still circumambulating it; it is inevitable. Regardless of who possesses infinite power, they cannot separate themselves from this sutra and this stupa.
