How to Enable Manas to Derive Results and Answers Independently

Question: "How can the manas arrive at conclusions and answers by itself? Reduce the analytical thinking of the consciousness, and allow the manas to contemplate and deliberate more on its own—this is the most effective approach. Once the consciousness knows the answer, it no longer wishes to investigate further, and the manas thus loses the opportunity to delve into the inquiry."

Previously, the master's Dharma teachings stated that the consciousness should engage in more analytical thinking to permeate the manas. This seems contradictory to the statement above. How is this possible?

Answer: In the initial stages, the consciousness must engage in extensive study. Once the consciousness has clarified the Dharma principles, it must transcend the forms of language and words, condensing these principles into a single point that is constantly suspended within the heart. At this stage, the contemplation of the manas surpasses that of the consciousness.

The process of the consciousness permeating the Dharma principles is like an investigator gathering market information—the intelligence must be thorough. After collecting the materials, they are handed over to the "boss," the manas, for review. At this point, the subordinate (consciousness) has little left to do. If the boss does not fully understand, the subordinate may offer appropriate explanations or supplementary details. Condensing the Dharma principles into a single point suspended within the heart signifies that the "boss" manas is about to examine the materials. At this stage, the "employee" (consciousness) should not disturb the boss excessively. Once the boss completes the review and arrives at its own conclusion, it will make a definitive decision. This is attainment.

In worldly law, convicting someone requires one hundred percent evidence. Thus, when the manas (the judicial officer) raises doubts, it requires the consciousness (the prosecutor) to gather evidence. Only when the manas is fully convinced can sentencing and conviction occur.
