The Blessings of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas

There are many such cases. For people whose karmic conditions for learning Buddhism have matured, before they even begin to study Buddhism, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, or other great bodhisattvas, or the Buddhas may bless them through dreams in order to help them quickly come to believe in and study Buddhism. After they begin learning Buddhism, the Buddhas and bodhisattvas will also bless them in dreams. Some people are gravely ill and lying in the hospital; Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva will then sprinkle nectar water on the crown of their head, and the next day their illness is cured. Such things are not strange, and they also involve matters of karmic affinity.

To be able to attract the manifest blessing of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas is due to the wholesome roots, merit, and karmic affinity from studying Buddhism in past lives. Such a person may not necessarily have cultivated very well; perhaps they are just beginning to study Buddhism, merely having faith in Buddhism. Bodhisattvas who want to deliver sentient beings will use all kinds of forms and methods, and they do not necessarily deliver only those with deep wholesome roots and abundant merit; they also deliver beginners, so as to lead them to develop faith in the Buddhas and bodhisattvas.
