The Conditions for Realizing Truth

Realizing enlightenment means that both the mind consciousness and the manas have discovered the truth and the facts. The truth is the object-aspect (nimitta), the discovery is the perceiving-aspect (darśana-bhāga), and discovering the truth is self-cognition (svasaṃvitti), not self-validating cognition (svasaṃvedana).

Whether one can realize enlightenment also depends on the wisdom and cognitive capacity of the manas itself, and on whether or not the manas has deeply entrenched wrong views (mithyā-dṛṣṭi) since beginningless kalpas; it does not depend solely on the mind consciousness's ability to gather evidence and data and to analyze and deliberate.

When the manas's habitual tendencies of greed manifest, they must be expressed through the six consciousnesses. The mind consciousness sometimes has awareness and will resist, but it may not necessarily succeed in resisting; at other times, the mind consciousness lacks awareness and does not resist.
