Concentration Is the Mind Root Abiding in Concentration

Venerable Master Kuiji entered samadhi for several thousand kalpas in his past life, with his manas being unstable. How could he remain in samadhi for several thousand kalpas? Within this samadhi, the six consciousnesses are absent, for with the presence of the six consciousnesses, one cannot remain long in samadhi. The meditative attainments of non-Buddhists are also profound—they can enter samadhi for eighty thousand great kalpas, all sustained by the manas abiding within the state of samadhi.
