Repetition Does Not Necessarily Enlighten the Manas

Question: Is it necessary to continuously repeat an action until it becomes a habit, so that unconscious habit becomes the "knowing" of the manas? Is that correct?

Answer: Repeating, and repeating again—without meditative concentration, no matter how many times it is repeated, if the manas does not engage in effective contemplation and consideration of the repeated content, it will still not understand the underlying reason, cannot realize it, and cannot attain true knowing. When there is meditative stability (samādhi), repetition is unnecessary. The doctrinal principles directly reach the manas, allowing the manas to contemplate and consider them itself. In due time, it will comprehend through contemplation—that is realization.
