When the mind consciousness encounters dharmas, it is able to comprehend them truthfully, with the most reasonable and precise understanding, neither misapprehending nor misinterpreting them, nor misunderstanding them. If one fails to achieve thorough comprehension and instead misapprehends, then one cannot make correct and error-free decisions; one's actions and deeds will inevitably be mistaken, leading to severe consequences.
If I teach the Dharma, and you consistently fail to achieve thorough comprehension, then my teaching is in vain, your learning is in vain, yielding no result, and perhaps we mutually waste each other's time. If you cannot thoroughly comprehend what others say to you, you will distort their meaning and be unable to respond reasonably and appropriately; then the two parties cannot communicate, and even if communication occurs, it is useless. In this way, people cannot communicate or interact with each other, and cannot coexist in the same space.
Among the seven consciousnesses, whichever consciousness lacks thorough comprehension (adhimokṣa) cannot correctly interpret the corresponding dharmas and cannot make correct and appropriate decisions. The result is like that of a blind person who cannot walk; that consciousness cannot function properly.
