The Principle of Anger Harming the Body

The physical body influences the mind and its mental factors. When the body's meridians are blocked and the qi is obstructed, a person will want to release that pent-up qi. The way of releasing it is called "venting anger" or "letting off steam"—using oneself, others, or objects as a venting outlet—until the blocked qi is fully released; only then does the anger subside and the mind become calm. Slapping the table and throwing things are ways of venting. If the qi cannot be released and remains stuck in the body, qi stagnation will occur, and the body will fall ill. A person of cultivation is unwilling to vent their anger outward, so they suppress it in their heart; doing this over a long period will lead to liver stagnation and qi stagnation, or even the formation of tumors and cancer. When the qi blockage is severe, the qi is strong, the anger vented is great, the intensity of the outburst is great, and it lasts a long time. When the qi blockage is not severe, the qi is small, the anger vented is small, the duration is short, and the anger subsides quickly.

Getting angry is extremely harmful to the body. No one wants to be angry; everyone wants to be cheerful and happy. Therefore, no one's manas would crave the flavor of anger or enjoy the feeling of being angry.
