So-called realization (zhengliang), generally speaking, refers to the degree to which one has realized the teachings of the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna, the degree to which one has actually realized or contemplated the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna teachings. "Zheng" means to realize or attain; "liang" means measurement, degree, or level.
Cultivating meditative concentration (dhyāna) also involves realization, called the realization of meditative concentration. In learning any dharma, there is the notion of realization. If one has realized nothing, then of course there is no realization.
