All unresolved problems can become objects of doubt, differing only in depth and continuity. There is also the question of where the doubt resides. If doubt arises merely in the conscious mind, it remains shallow and can be easily forgotten, failing to persist. Such doubt is almost always intermittent, making it difficult to truly resolve the issue. Only when doubt arises from the depths of the root consciousness (manas) can it endure day and night, persisting unceasingly. Whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, the mind remains fixed on that doubt, unceasingly pursuing it until the question is resolved.
