The manas possesses powerful capabilities; on its own it can accomplish all dharmas

Once cultivation has fully developed the power of the manas, the manas becomes so capable that it can cast aside its assistants and tools, and without the six consciousnesses and the physical body, it can accomplish all dharmas on its own. For example, in the second dhyāna and above, the five sense consciousnesses are not needed; in the fourth dhyāna and above, the breathing of the physical body is not needed, nor the pulse and the beating of the heart to deliver nourishment. In the concentration of no-perception (asaṃjñā-samāpatti), the mind consciousness is not needed; in the heaven of the sphere of nothingness, the physical body is not needed; in the cessation of perception and feeling (nirodha-samāpatti), only oneself and the eighth consciousness suffice. For the great arhat liberated in both ways (ubhayatobhāgavimukta) and bodhisattvas on the eighth bhūmi, the manas alone can know all dharmas, without needing the six consciousnesses.
