Verses on the Eight Consciousnesses

One mother bore seven sons, each distinct from the others.

The eldest relied on his mother's status, assumed authority, and held power.

The second excelled at strategizing and occupied the position of steward.

The remaining five brothers labored and earned money.

The revered mother diligently nurtured them; the ruler issued commands.

The steward meticulously kept accounts; the five younger brothers toiled exhaustingly.

Indulged by their mother's kindness, the eldest often abused his might.

The second swayed with the wind, while the five younger brothers resorted to looting and plundering.

When retribution came, the entire family suffered bitterly.

To survive, the steward learned from the virtuous mother.

After learning, he admonished the eldest: "Good and evil inevitably bring retribution."

The eldest gained insight, and their circumstances gradually improved.

The virtuous mother finally moved her sons; all seven returned repentantly.

The second son, wise and astute, most closely resembled the mother in learning virtue.

He guided the eldest brother and led the younger siblings.

The family collectively turned to goodness, ultimately attaining boundless blessings.
