The Meaning of Sentient and Insentient Beings Together Perfecting the Wisdom of the Varieties of Paths

"Together perfecting the wisdom of all seeds" (同圆种智) means that wisdom is perfected without obstruction, consciousness is transformed into wisdom, and one ultimately attains buddhahood. "Sentient" (情) refers to sentient beings. When a sentient being attains buddhahood, the five-aggregate body with the thirty-two marks and eighty excellent characteristics is the direct retribution, while the insentient material world—the environment and the Buddha-land—is the circumstantial retribution. The circumstantial retribution turns along with the direct retribution, and the Buddha-land where the Buddha abides also becomes supremely beautiful and sublime. When the mind changes, all the dharmas around one change accordingly. This is what is meant by the saying: "A person of merit dwells in a land of merit, and a land of merit is where people of merit dwell!"
