The Secret of Appearance

A person's voice can reflect their character, temperament, disposition, their level of cultivation, and whether their mind-nature is simple and sincere or hypocritical and cunning, whether it is bright or dark. A person's facial features and appearance can also reflect their cultivation, character, temperament, disposition, learning, demeanor, and so on; even their bones, jaw, muscles, physique, skin, and so forth can reveal a person's character and temperament—whether they are diligent or lazy, rigorous and serious or lax, slack, and undisciplined, whether they are sunny or gloomy, and so on.

Everyone truly should take responsibility for their own appearance, for it is all cultivated by oneself through life after life. When one's appearance is not to one's liking, do not blame one's parents or Heaven; one should reproach oneself. If one was so arrogant in a past life, one will be short in this life. If a person's muscles are so flabby, that person is likely lax and lazy, with an undisciplined mind, the type who just muddles along. A person whose body is crooked and askew often has a mind that is not upright either. An upright person has an upright mind and an upright body, with well-proportioned features, firm skin, and a serious countenance. Even their gaze is upright—they do not glance sideways—and their heart is bright and open. From a person's physiognomy, one can also discern which realm they came from in a past life; the younger they are, the more accurately this can be seen. As for which realm they will be reborn into in the future, the older they are, the more accurately it can be seen.
