What should one do when the mind easily gets carried away by distracting thoughts? As long as one maintains mindfulness in the heart and focuses single-mindedly on that mindfulness without concerning oneself with the distracting thoughts, the mind will gradually settle upon mindfulness and become endowed with meditative concentration. What is mindfulness? It is the Dharma one is currently contemplating deeply, or a thought free from greed, hatred, and delusion that enables one's consciousness to concentrate on a single point, such as the mindfulness meditation techniques taught by the Buddha in the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta.
