All states of experience are illusory

With a whole heap of signals, how do we seemingly perceive the realms of the six sense objects? It is like a series of signals virtually forming a television picture: we are actually watching television, yet we have nothing to do with the picture on the screen. Why do we pour our minds entirely into the virtual picture? How can we draw the mind out and leave the picture behind? To be a bystander—how relaxed and at ease that would be! For everything to have nothing to do with me—how liberated that would be!

With regard to all realms of experience: you are a picture upon my mind, arising illusorily and ceasing illusorily, coming illusorily and going illusorily. I watch you arise, watch you cease, watch you come, watch you go—letting you come and letting you go, while my mind remains utterly unmoved. Cultivation should be exactly like this, and in the end it will be exactly like this; only thus can there be liberation.
