The Eighth Consciousness's Discernment of All Dharmas Is Direct Perception

All dharmas are realms that the eighth consciousness personally and solely manifests; the eighth consciousness can personally perceive them all, perceiving them directly in the present moment. Therefore, for the eighth consciousness, all dharmas are dharmas existing right before it; the eighth consciousness knows them through direct perception (pratyakṣa), discerning them by direct perception, without needing to know them by comparison, and even less by imagination. The eighth consciousness also has no mental activities or characteristics of fantasy or deluded thinking. In this respect, the eighth consciousness possesses incomparable great wisdom, able to know all dharmas by direct perception without any obstruction. The Tathāgata Buddha's seven consciousnesses, like the eighth consciousness, discern all dharmas by direct perception, seeing dharmas in the very moment without comparison, deliberation, or imagination—this is the result of the seven consciousnesses having all been transformed into wisdom, with no more ignorance.
